The compact tonneau-style case shape matches the 37mm diameter of the original A384, and the pushers and crown are spot on and in proportion with the original. Best of all, and possibly surprising, for aficionados and collectors, the Zenith El Primero A384 Revival will not be a limited edition, meaning that this tribute watch will be, in Zenith’s words, “exclusive yet attainable” (it’s priced at $7,900). With the new El Primero A384 Revival, which was unveiled about a week ago at an event in New York, Zenith got details right. For those seeking out the most historically accurate ensemble possible, however, there will also be a version on an integrated “ladder” steel bracelet of the type that graced the 1969 watch. I’ll often subconsciously overlook watches with this case measurement, but the angular and stylized tonneau case looks pretty perfect on my 7.5 inch wrist. The trio pays homage to the original references of the same names first released in 1969, featuring Zenith’s El Primero in the push to release the first automatic chronograph. In all other significant respects, the El Primero A384 Revival is a faithful homage to the original, with a red central chronograph hand (and note the absence of the Zenith star-shaped counterweight of more contemporary models), a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and small seconds at 9 o’clock, along with the tilted date window at 4:30 even the numerical font used on the date wheel appears to be the same or similar. Prior to the big reveal of their all-new Chronomaster Sport, Zenith quietly revealed the A385, the third reference of the Revival series, joining the A384 and A386.
